Update - VRBO did revise the case. We ended up getting some compensation for the issue. When the agent Katrina said below is accurate Original issue: First time using VRBO and there was mold in the house.They helped us get out of the house but said that we are not covered by their "book with confidence" program. They claimed black mold to be an allergy and that they would have just sent some cleaners.Meanwhile the entire home was covered in mold.Be careful when booking with VRBO - choose Airbnb.

This was the first time for me to use VRBO. Based on my experience, it certainly won't be the last. VRBO had many choices at the location we wanted and it was extremely convenient to book the property we selected. VRBO's handling of our reservation made the process easy. I made a recent reservation using this service. Unfortunately, I had a change of plan. After reading reviews, I was concern if I would receive a full. But, Vrbo provided a full refund, as termed in the agreement. Being the case, I have no reservations of using the service again.

I am writing this as an owner who advertises on VRBO. Overall my experience of VRBO has been positive. I originally started using them when they were Owners Direct. Expedia bought the company in order to acquire the properties and compete with Airbnb and Trip Advisor. They changed the name to Homeaway and turned the website into an online reservation system for self-catering holidays. The main thing that Expedia brought to the table was guaranteed bookings via credit cards for which they charge guests at least 12% on top of the Owners rental price. Advance payments are held in Escrow until guests have checked in which means if properties are not as described monies can be refunded avoiding scams and fraud. Recently they changed the name of Homeaway to VRBO which doesn't have brand recognition in the UK and is probably losing them business at present. In their defence they reacted extremely well to the pandemic arranging prompt refunds for cancellations with staff available by phone to provide help. The website isn't very user friendly for owners and seems to be under continous change, driven mainly to try to generate more revenue. Their terms and conditions for owners are voluminous and very one-sided no doubt a reflection of the litigious nature of the US culture. Interestingly we have had a fair amount of bookings from the Continent which indicates a broad marketing reach. So overall although there's room for improvement I reckon they are quite good.

The prices on the site don't match the reality. I had to contact the host who gave a breakdown of the payment interval, it was double the cost of Vrbo. What you see ain't what you get! On the positive side the agents were very good & very helpful. All I want to have is the true cost in front of me to make an informed choice, not to told by the host its nowhere near that, its embarassing. Within twenty minutes the webpage had updated & displayed the new price, & I had been looking at this particular property in question for nearly two weeks with no changes. Clearly something wrong. Anyway I have booked elsewhere now & got an upfront cost so I am happy.

Excellent experience. Fast, easy process in booking a home for our time away from home.

VRBO is my favorite way to book a trip. It’s easy to use, efficient and user friendly. I always have a great experience every time I use VRBO!
